Why this matters
The renewal of Arda Güler at Real Madrid is a clear sign of the confidence the club has in the young Turkish talent. Main conclusions
- Arda Güler's renewal at Real Madrid has one point for.
- Arda Güler has agreed to renew with Real Madrid, but the doubt remains about the duration: 2031 (Anadolu Agency citing AS) or 2032 (according to Fabrizio Romano).
- Arda Güler’s Real Madrid renewal has one key detail unresolved.
Arda Güler has reached an agreement to renew his contract with Real Madrid, but an essential detail remains unclear: the exact duration of the new contract. According to Anadolu Agency, citing the Madrid sports daily AS, the Turkish international extended the agreement that expired in 2029 for another two years, which would push the new term to 2031. The version summarized from a publication by Fabrizio Romano on the social network X points to 2032 as the end date. So far, there is no official statement from the Merengue club that clarifies the issue, so uncertainty remains between the two versions.
According to the same information from Anadolu Agency, the renewal also includes a salary increase, interpreted as a reflection of Güler's growing influence in the main team. The discrepancy is, however, relevant: the 2031 thesis describes an extension of two years compared to the current horizon of 2029, while the 2032 scenario suggests an even longer commitment. It is not clear from the available data whether the difference results from different terms being discussed or a reporting error.
The new connection would serve to formalize the status that the attacking midfielder has been achieving. A more prominent role under José Mourinho has been discussed in the context of his future, and the alleged salary adjustment fits into this sporting appreciation. According to the Anadolu Agency, Güler has already made five starts this season with Mourinho. Last season, he finished with 40 starts, six goals and 14 assists — the team's maximum —, numbers that help explain Real Madrid's move to shield their campaign in Madrid.
At 21 years old, Arda Güler arrived at Real Madrid in 2023, from Fenerbahçe, and is now in his fourth season with the Whites. In parallel with reports about the renewal, the Transfermarkt portal will have updated its market valuation from 90 to 100 million euros, although this indicator is independent of the contractual terms and does not constitute official confirmation of anything related to the agreement.
Mourinho has publicly highlighted the Turkish player's influence, highlighting the midfielder's technical quality, vision, decision-making and creativity, as well as his margin of progression. This assessment aligns with the portrait that emerges from reports about the contract: Real Madrid sees Güler as a relevant player for the present and the future, in a similar vein to the club's effort to retain other young midfield pillars — cases such as Aurélien Tchouaméni, whose contract will have been extended until 2031, as was also reported.
The central point to be concluded, therefore, remains the exact expiry date of the new contract. Until Real Madrid makes the renewal and its terms official, the two versions coexist: 2031, according to Anadolu Agency (citing AS), and 2032, according to Fabrizio Romano's summary of the publication. The salary increase also remains within the reported domain, without confirmation in a statement from the club. In either scenario, the renewal is part of the Merengues' strategy of tying up their emerging talents for the competitive cycle that follows.
What happens next
The uncertainty surrounding the length of Güler's contract needs to be resolved quickly, as the lack of an official statement from Real Madrid leaves room for speculation. If the renewal is confirmed until 2031 or 2032, this could influence the way the club plans its team for the next few years in La Liga.
