Lamine Yamal, the promising forward for FC Barcelona and the Spanish National Team, made a post on social media on the night of October 27th that quickly captured the attention of fans. Starting with the highlighted phrase: "It will arrive quickly", Yamal referred to his ambition to win the prestigious Ballon d'Or. In his message, the young 19-year-old striker highlighted the importance of time and patience, stating: "Good things need time. I'm not in a hurry and I trust in what I'm building. With passion, I'm sure that one day my opportunity will come."
In the same publication, Yamal congratulated other winners present at the Ballon d'Or gala and reaffirmed his determination to help Barcelona return to the path of victory. The post was a huge success, reaching four million “likes” and close to 40,000 comments. Among his words of encouragement, his teammate Fermin Lopez commented: "It will come soon, and it won't just be a prize. I will always be by your side." Ronald Araujo, who is on loan from Barcelona to Liverpool, also left his message of support: "Of course, friend. Go ahead. You're the best!" In turn, Inigo Martinez, a former Barcelona player who now plays for Al Nassr, wrote: "There are talents that don't need awards to assert themselves."
Yamal finished the race for the Ballon d'Or in third place, behind Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappé. This was the second time in a row that the young striker was in the top three without achieving victory, having lost to Ousmane Dembélé in the previous edition. When former player Ronaldo Fenómeno announced Kane as the winner, Yamal applauded, but his expression of disappointment did not go unnoticed.
Among the candidates present at the ceremony at the Palladium Theatre, Yamal was the one who most showed his disappointment. Before the gala, bookmakers were giving Yamal odds of winning that rivaled Kane's. For this year, Yamal presented himself with the title of La Liga champion with Barcelona, having also represented Spain in the World Cup, where he had a significant contribution with 25 goals and 20 assists in 55 games in the 2025-2026 season.
On the other hand, Harry Kane, who finished third in the World Cup with the English national team, won a treble of national titles with Bayern Munich, registering 73 goals and 8 assists in 65 matches, a performance that is just nine goals behind Lionel Messi's record of 82 goals in the 2011-2012 season. Mbappé, in turn, had a remarkable individual performance, with 58 goals and 11 assists in 59 games, which guaranteed him the title of top scorer in the three main competitions: La Liga, Champions League and World Cup.
The race for the Ballon d'Or places individual performance as the most important criterion, surpassing collective results and sportsmanship.
What happens next
With Yamal's determination to help Barcelona regain its leading position, fans can expect continued development from the player. The support of his teammates and his own positive mindset suggest he could be a key player in the club's fight for titles in La Liga and European competitions.
