Serbia had a disappointing performance at Euro 2024 and did not qualify for the 2026 World Cup, having also lost their first three games in the Nations League, including the defeat to the Netherlands last week. This challenging scenario means the team urgently needs a victory, and the game in Eindhoven could be the perfect opportunity. The coach commented: "We are fully motivated for the duel with the Netherlands. The good thing about this format is that we still have the chance to change people's impression of us."
Paunovic highlighted that, regardless of the result, every game for Serbia should be seen as a final. For him, a change in the team's direction could occur if they manage to be more offensive: "If we can attack more, that will bring pleasure to the game, and pleasure is essential to obtain good results."
Currently, Serbia is going through a difficult phase, having lost five consecutive games, including two friendlies, which already represents a negative record for the team. The coach also recalled that the former Yugoslavia team, Serbia's predecessor, also suffered a series of defeats in the 1930s, but he is confident that his team can turn things around. "Each match is a new opportunity to show our quality and change the narrative," concluded Paunovic.
The game against the Netherlands represents not only a chance for recovery, but also an opportunity for Serbia to reverse their bad form and regain the trust of their fans.
