Pere Romeu, coach of the women's FC Barcelona, highlighted in an interview with ESPN the high level of commitment that his team has shown at the start of the new season. After a summer marked by the responsibility of defending the status of European champion, the coach ensures that the competitive response has been exemplary and visible on the pitch. Proof of this, he said, is the recent 7-0 victory against Real Madrid, a result that filled him with pride for the way it was constructed, from the first to the last minute.
“It was a triumph that reflects what we work on every day: intensity, ambition and rigor”, Romeu emphasized to ESPN, reinforcing that he sees the group focused and hungry for titles. The coach, who has been in charge of the team for two years and three months, highlighted that the start of the season confirms the continuity of the playing principles that have made Barcelona a reference in European women's football.
The Blaugrana coach also revealed a behind-the-scenes detail that illustrates the internal harmony at the club. Before Sunday's Clásico, he received a message of support from Hansi Flick, coach of Barça's men's main squad. “Hansi Flick sent me a message”, confided Romeu, thanking the gesture and highlighting the importance of this connection between structures to maintain competitive demands at all levels.
The defeat against Real Madrid, a direct rival and symbol of the growing rivalry also in women's football, was more than an impressive result: it was a sign of authority from a Barcelona that has become accustomed to dominating with possession, high pressing and depth through the corridors. Romeu highlighted the maturity with which the team managed the different moments of the game, the effectiveness in the final third and the defensive solidarity that allowed them to keep the goal to zero.
Without going into individualities, the coach preferred to praise the team and the standard of performance it demands on a daily basis. Women's Barcelona, current champions of the UEFA Women's Champions League, thus maintain a high standard in a demanding schedule that will test the group's consistency on several fronts. For Romeu, the focus is on consolidating processes, managing effort and following the philosophy that has sustained recent success.
Flick's message, he revealed, was received as an extra incentive in a context of great media and competitive exposure. The Barcelona women's coach sees in this gesture a mirror of the club's culture: an institution that wants to win in all teams, female and male, supported by a common game identity and constant demand. And, based on the signs left at the start of the season, the path traced by Romeu continues to point towards new achievements.
