Napoli need to reduce squad before new signings, says
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis commented that he had received "200 proposals for players to sign", but stressed that he must first reduce the squad before thinking about new acquisitions. After finishing the season in second place in Serie A behind Inter, the club has already started to implement changes, starting with the replacement of Antonio Conte with former AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri.Furthermore, Napoli confirmed the stay of Alisson Santos, who was loaned by Sporting CP in the second half of the 2025-26 season. Rasmus Hojlund, who scored 16 goals in all competitions last season, is also now a Napoli player after the club secured Champions League qualification, triggering the mandatory buyout clause on his loan from Manchester United.
Napoli now have 24 players who were on loan last season, all returning to the club, and De Laurentiis said there will be many departures this summer. "In the last month I have received 200 proposals for players to sign," said De Laurentiis, as quoted by Football Italia. "But I told them to stay calm. We have 47 players and we need to add 25 before we can talk about signings. In my opinion, it will not be necessary to buy anyone, we will give a lot of players," he added.
Allegri's long-awaited appointment as Napoli's new coach was confirmed last week, with the experienced Italian signing a three-year contract with the club. Allegri was considered the favorite to take the job after being sacked by Milan due to their failure to secure Champions League qualification. The Rossoneri club finished fifth in Serie A, just one point behind fourth place, occupied by Como, which led to Allegri's second spell at San Siro being ended after just one year.
Throughout his career, Allegri won 14 trophies, two with Milan and 12 with Juventus, where he also had two separate spells. De Laurentiis has previously mentioned that Napoli were looking for "consistency" with their next appointment and, now that Allegri has finally signed, he is confident that the coach will align with the club's approach. "Mr. Allegri is a man of the house, we will get along very well," concluded De Laurentiis.
