Context
Yunus Musah, 23, is a player who has gone through ups and downs in his career, but now seems to be finding his rhythm at AC Milan. After a less impactful spell at Atalanta, where he had few opportunities, his recovery under Ruben Amorim could be a turning point in his trajectory, both at club level and with the national team.

His performance on the field could be decisive for the team's aspirations in Serie A, contributing to the fight for the title and qualification for European competitions. Yunus Musah is enjoying his second opportunity at AC Milan, after being given another chance under Ruben Amorim. The 23-year-old has become an integral part of Amorim's plans this season after falling out of favor under Massimiliano Allegri and spending the 2025-26 season on loan at Atalanta. During his time at Bergamo, Musah failed to make much of an impact, starting just six games across all competitions and scoring just two goals. However, since Amorim's arrival at the San Siro, Musah has played 419 minutes in six matches, four of which as a starter. Although he has not yet contributed with goals, his performances have attracted attention. Within the Rossoneri squad, only Samuel Chukwueze (11) and Christian Pulisic (five) completed more dribbles than the four performed by Musah (tied with Diego Moreira).
The player's good performances resulted in his return to the United States national team, after failing to qualify for the World Cup. Musah attributes his recovery to Amorim's positive impact. "I thought maybe he was saying this like other coaches just to keep me at the club," Musah said. "But as the pre-season went on, I realized he was playing a lot, he talked to me often, and it was true. I started the season playing a lot of minutes and getting a lot of opportunities.
Now, returning to the national team is also something special. It's been a great start to the season, having coaches who believe in me again. As a player, that's what you really want: for the coaches to believe in us and let us play."
AC Milan ended the extended international break with a 3-0 victory over Lecce, with Pulisic, Adrien Rabiot and Moreira scoring in a convincing home win. This result continues Amorim's strong start, with Milan occupying fifth place in Serie A, just two points behind leaders Roma and Inter. Amorim is only the third foreign coach in Milan's history to remain unbeaten in their first five league games, the first to do so since Massimo Giacomini in the 1979-80 season. Milan are also unbeaten in their first five Serie A matches for the first time since 2022-23, and will hope to continue that run in their next game against Sassuolo this Sunday.

What happens next
With continued good performances, Musah could consolidate his place in AC Milan's starting lineup and potentially increase his contribution in terms of goals and assists. The focus now will be on maintaining form and helping the team achieve its goals in Serie A. Furthermore, his call-up to the United States national team could be an additional incentive for the player, who is looking to make a significant mark this season.
