Twenty years after the Calciopoli investigation that led to his radiation, Luciano Moggi once again spoke about current affairs in Italian football. In an interview with the daily La Nazione, the former Juventus sporting director spoke about the Bianconeri, Milan and the state of the game in Italy.
Regarding Juventus, Moggi approved the bet on Giovanni Carnevali, a manager who stood out at Sassuolo. “Something was done with discretion, the concept of competence came into play and Carnevali demonstrated it at Sassuolo”, he stated. Even so, he left a warning: “I was used to not going down there; at Juventus you have to win”.
As for Milan, the former director believes that the club has lost its identity since Paolo Maldini's departure. "Since Maldini was removed, the situation has accelerated. I regret that one of the creators of this situation is Ibra, but the real responsible is President Cardinale, because he allows Zlatan to put everything in the same bag. You cannot remove all the ruling branches of a society...", shot Moggi, in a direct criticism of Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic's role in the structure.
Asked about Giovanni Malagò and the current situation in transalpine football, Moggi was harsh: "The real problems arose in the last twenty years, because we had leaders who were more interested in looking after their own interests than those of Italy. That's why our football, which from the year 2000 onwards was the most beautiful, has become uglier, also due to the excessive number of foreigners".
The former manager also left a suggestion for the Italian team's bench. "Next CT? I would definitely go to Conte, otherwise I would give Baldini confidence", he concluded.
