Manchester City are showing interest in young Barcelona player Tommy Marques, according to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo. The Premier League champions are considering approaching the Catalan club to secure Spanish talent during this transfer window. Marques, just 19 years old, has already stood out in Barcelona's youth system and managed to join the first team last season, where he made two league appearances.
The young midfielder is considered one of the most promising talents in Spanish football and, therefore, it is no surprise that Manchester City are trying to secure his signature. Marques' contract with Barcelona is set to expire in 2028, which could make it difficult for the English to transfer him at an affordable price if they decide to sign him.
Tommy Marques is a player of great intensity, known for his tackling ability and his willingness to work defensively in midfield. Furthermore, he has a powerful long-distance shot and can create opportunities for his teammates in the offensive zone. His energy and ability to run the length of the field make him a valuable asset.
Although he is primarily a defensive midfielder, Marques can also play box-to-box roles if asked by the coach. However, there are some questions about his adaptation to the physical pace and intensity of the Premier League, should Manchester City complete his signing this summer.
If City can secure his signature, Marques could increase the quality of the midfield under manager Enzo Maresca in the long term. He could also prove to be a potential successor to Rodri in the future. At just 19 years old, Marques' future looks promising, as long as he continues to improve annually. However, it will be crucial that Maresca gives him time to adapt to life in England before he can get the best out of the young player. Marques is undoubtedly a talent to be reckoned with, and Manchester City would do well to intensify their efforts to secure his signature this year.
What happens next
With Manchester City considering an approach to Barcelona, Tommy Marques' situation could evolve quickly during this transfer window. Barcelona, in turn, can resist offers, given that the player's contract extends until 2028, which gives them a position of strength. City's decision to move forward or not may depend on their assessment of Marques' development potential and his ability to integrate into the team.
