Chicago Fire FC today announced the signing of global football star and top scorer for the Polish national team, Robert Lewandowski, who joins the club as a Designated Player. The prolific striker arrives in Major League Soccer (MLS) after one of the most prestigious careers in world football, with more than 700 goals scored between the national team and top European clubs. His last experience was at Barcelona, where, last month, he helped win the League title, also finishing as top scorer for the eighth time between the Bundesliga and the Spanish championship.
Lewandowski's arrival confirms Chicago Fire's ambition to build a high-level team, capable of competing for trophies and increasing the club's international prestige. Lewandowski will occupy one of the seats reserved for Designated Players and one slot for international players, pending the issuance of the P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). His contract will run until the end of the 2027-28 MLS season.
"From the day Joe Mansueto and I first met, we set the goal of building a world-class club capable of inspiring, uniting Chicago and winning trophies. Robert perfectly embodies these values and represents the standards this city deserves: he is a champion and a true competitor," said Gregg Berhalter, technical director and coach of the Chicago Fire. "His arrival reinforces our ambition to fight for trophies and raises the level of the club even further, putting it on par with a city like Chicago. We look forward to starting to work with him and allowing our fans to see up close why he is considered one of the greatest sporting icons in the world.", he concluded.
