Jude Bellingham described England captain Harry Kane as "the best player to ever wear the shirt" after an impressive performance on a historic night. Kane equaled Peter Shilton's record for the most caps for England when he was named in the starting eleven for Tuesday night's Nations League game against the Czech Republic. As usual, Kane was the key player for the English team at Wembley, scoring two goals and registering an assist, the latter following a cross that Vladimir Coufal introduced into his own goal, in his 125th international game.
After the game, his teammate Bellingham and coach Thomas Tuchel were full of praise for the striker. Bellingham told ITV: "I can only speak from my perspective and, first and foremost, he is an incredible human being. As a captain and as a man, he looks after every person in the team. He is the one who takes responsibility off the pitch.
"And on the pitch, he's the best England player to ever wear this shirt. It's an honor to play with him. He's at a level like no other. He's scoring goals with ease, dropping back to make passes and contributing with tackles and everything else. He's only getting better."
Coach Thomas Tuchel, asked about Kane's performance, replied with a smile: "It's what he does. I don't take him for granted. He's simply exceptional in every game. It's difficult to find words to describe him." Kane was substituted late in the game to a standing ovation from the Wembley crowd, replaced by Leeds forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin as England secured a comfortable 3-0 victory.
This result follows a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture in Prague, as well as a crushing 7-0 victory against Croatia, placing Tuchel's side second in Group A3 behind World Cup winners Spain, who inflicted a 3-2 defeat on England in the opening game of this international window. Tuesday's victory leaves England just needing to avoid an 8-0 defeat to Croatia at home in the November international break to secure a place in the Nations League semi-finals in March, with Spain already guaranteed their place.
What happens next
With Kane equaling the record number of caps, his continued selection is crucial to England's future, especially with the Nations League approaching. Bellingham, meanwhile, can continue to develop under Kane's influence as the team prepares to face new challenges. The dynamic between these two players will be vital to England's performance in international competitions.
