Vozinha, one of the highlights of Cape Verde's surprising campaign in the 2026 World Cup, was presented this Tuesday as a reinforcement for Colo-Colo, from Chile, and guaranteed that he never hesitated when the interest of the historic South American emblem arose. At 40 years old, the Cape Verdean international arrives on a free transfer and sees the new challenge as the highlight of his career at club level.
"The decision was very clear. Throughout my career, even playing in smaller leagues, I always saw myself as a player for a big club. When Colo-Colo approached me, there were no doubts. I had other offers, but Colo-Colo was always the priority", stated the goalkeeper in his presentation, also highlighting that the World Cup "was the best thing" that happened to him in football, but that now the focus is entirely on helping the new club achieve its goals.
The 2026 World Cup showcase catapulted the name Vozinha. Cape Verde reached the round of 32, only falling in extra time against Argentina, after an undefeated group stage with three draws that led to 2nd place and qualification. On his debut, the goalkeeper wrote history by becoming the oldest to score a goal clean in the first game of a World Cup, in a 0-0 against future champions Spain, a match in which he recorded seven saves.
The Blue Sharks captain's consistency was also echoed in the tournament's historical statistics: Vozinha became only the third goalkeeper to record more than one clean sheet in a World Cup after turning 40, joining legends such as Peter Shilton (three) and Dino Zoff (two). Merits that did not go unnoticed and opened the door to Colo-Colo, a club he described as “huge and with a rich history”.
Aware of the pressure that surrounds the big stage, the Cape Verdean international admitted that the World Cup experience prepared him for the next step. "Playing in a World Cup brings immense pressure. I faced the best teams in the world. Now, I want to work and help this team achieve its goals", he stressed.
Immediately, the focus is on a possible debut next Sunday. Colo-Colo, current leader of the championship, faces last-placed Union La Calera, and Vozinha will be able to play his first minutes in the Albos shirt, offering Santiago's team his experience and security between the posts.
After a summer that projected him into the international spotlight, Vozinha finds in Colo-Colo an ambitious stage to continue the moment of form and authority he displayed at the World Cup. For the Chilean team, this is a signing that adds quality and leadership to a crucial sector to sustain the fight for the goals of the season.
