German football continues to be stirred by the impressive display of Werder Bremen, who, after a disappointing start to the season, managed to draw away from home against Borussia Dortmund. In the last game, Bremen were 0-2 behind, but managed a remarkable recovery, ending the match in a 2-2 draw. One of the protagonists of this turnaround was Nicolás Folkrog, who scored a crucial header in the final minutes, securing a valuable point for his team.
Folkrog, who returned to Bremen on loan from West Ham, has been in great form. With this goal, he reached the mark of scoring in four consecutive games, a feat he had not achieved since the beginning of his career. To give you an idea of his evolution, in the 29 matches he played for West Ham, he only managed to score three goals and, during his loan at AC Milan, he only scored once in 20 games. However, on his return to Bremen, he seems to have found his best form again.
Folkrog's importance to the team is undeniable. His ability to score goals and his presence on the field have been fundamental for Bremen, who, without him, would probably have accumulated just four points so far, instead of the current eight. To date, Bremen has managed to recover five points after being behind in games, a feat that illustrates the team's fight and determination.
After the game, Folkrog made a point of expressing his desire to be called up to the national team again. "I don't like to talk too much about it. I think that Jürgen Klopp, during the international break, has already addressed this topic a lot. His choices show that he has a vision for the future of the national team", he stated.
Despite his desire to represent Germany again, Folkrog remained humble, saying: "If my national team needs me, I will be available. Even if I reach 40, I will be ready to play." The striker, who has already worn the Germany shirt on 24 occasions and scored 14 goals, has not played for the national team since June 2025, when he participated in a game against France.
During his impressive recovery, Folkrog not only demonstrated his ability to score, but was also the player who played the most duels on the field, with 16 clashes. "I haven't forgotten how to play. I can run for 90 minutes. In the last game against Augsburg, I ran 11.5 kilometers. I don't know how many 33-year-old forwards can run that distance," he said.
Folkrog's goal was not well received at Borussia Dortmund, where Nico Schlotterbeck, after the match, commented: "Folkrog is always Folkrog. He knows how to be where a striker should be. We thought we controlled him well before the goal. We scored two goals that should have been enough. But then he came in and made the Signal Iduna Park stadium silent."
What happens next
After this draw, Werder Bremen should continue to work on their form and consistency to improve their position in the Bundesliga. The team will have to maintain the momentum and determination shown, especially with the contribution of Folkrog, who seems to have found his best form again. The next challenge will be crucial for maintaining morale and building a good performance for the season.
