Dinamo Makhachkala beat Dinamo Saint Petersburg 3-1 this Thursday, in a private game played behind closed doors, without broadcast and without the presence of fans. The meeting, held on July 16, 2026, served as a competitive test for the two teams in a preparation phase in which the focus is on gaining pace and fine-tuning processes before the official start of the season.
Despite the favorable outcome for the formation of the Russian Premier League, it was the Saint Petersburg team that opened the scoring. In the 22nd minute, striker Rizvan Umarov took advantage of an opportunity in the area to beat the opposing goalkeeper and put Dinamo SPb ahead. The 1-0 remained for much of the match, with Makhachkala looking for solutions to overcome the visiting team's defensive organization.
The turnaround came dramatically within the final ten minutes. At 82', midfielder Daniil Lesovoy appeared in the finishing zone to restore equality, returning the momentum to the home team. There was barely time to breathe: a minute later, in the 83rd minute, Gamid Agalarov scored a somersault on the scoreboard, making it 2-1 and putting Dinamo Makhachkala ahead for the first time. The final blow came in the 89th minute, when Mohammad Hosseinnejad crowned the reaction with the third goal, making the score 3-1.
Without official images of the match, the report of the challenge focused on the essentials: an effective Makhachkala in the final stretch, who knew how to transform territorial dominance into goals when it mattered most, and a competitive Saint Petersburg, capable of conditioning for long periods but unable to sustain the opponent's ultimate pressure.
This triumph comes after Dinamo Makhachkala finished the last season of the Russian Premier League in 14th place, guaranteeing their permanence through the maintenance play-off. In a pre-season context, victories in preparation games are not worth points, but they count towards consolidating ideas, increasing the group's confidence and giving minutes to different solutions within the squad. For Dinamo Saint Petersburg, the individual left useful indications about the competitive response against a top-flight opponent, with room to adjust routines and processes in the next sessions.
With no public calendar released for the next matches of these teams, it was an intense match, decided by three consecutive blows in the final period, which highlighted Dinamo Makhachkala's coolness in key moments.
What happens next
With this triumph, Dinamo Makhachkala can now focus on fine-tuning their strategy and tactics for the upcoming season. The next challenge will be crucial to assess the team's preparation and ability to compete in the Russian Premier League, especially after finishing last season in 14th place and struggling to stay in the league.
