The story of Amirhossein Hosseinzadeh in the clashes between Esteghlal and Tractor began in February 2022. On that occasion, Esteghlal, under the leadership of Farhad Majidi, won in Tabriz with a goal from the young midfielder in the 70th minute, taking an important step in their quest for the undefeated title. That goal made Hosseinzadeh an emblematic figure in the minds of the blue club's fans.
However, fate completely turned around. In April of the following year, already wearing the Tractor shirt, Hosseinzadeh managed to score two goals in his new club's victory over Esteghlal, reversing a 1-0 deficit to a 2-1 victory. The first goal marked the beginning of Tractor's recovery, while the second secured the three points, essential in the race for the title.
In last year's Super Cup, Hosseinzadeh shone again against Esteghlal, converting a crucial penalty in the 87th minute, after a goal from Rouzbeh Cheshmi had put Esteghlal ahead until that moment. Tractor ended up winning with a second goal from Tomislav Štrkalj in added time. Thus, Esteghlal's former idol scored three goals in Tractor's significant victories over his former team.
This season's numbers underline the striker's impressive form. In seven matches so far, Hosseinzadeh has scored four goals, surpassing the record of the club's previous goalscorers and taking his league goal total to 31. He is now Tractor's all-time top scorer in the Iranian league, heading into Thursday's game with renewed confidence.
For Esteghlal's defenders, the task of stopping Hosseinzadeh will be challenging. He moves between the lines, moves to the sides and enters the area at the right time. His experience in big games, combined with the motivation to face his former team, makes him a player capable of changing the course of a match even with minimal touches.
In this match, Hosseinzadeh will confront his past, remembering the victory he gave Esteghlal in Tabriz, and now he aims to transform the same stadium into the setting for the continuation of his goalscoring saga against the Blues. If he manages to score another goal on Thursday, the narrative of the former Esteghlal idol who contributed to an undefeated title will be even more deeply rooted in the story of a striker who knows the way to the Esteghlal goal like few others.
What happens next
With Hosseinzadeh's impressive form, Tractor hopes to continue its positive trajectory in the Iranian League, especially in games against direct rivals. The expectation is that he will maintain this level of performance, contributing to the team's success this season and further enhancing his reputation as one of the league's top forwards.
