Transfer defined: Gladbach signs Zento Uno at bargain price

Borussia Mönchengladbach secured the signing of Zento Uno, a 22-year-old midfielder, who arrives at the club at a bargain price. The player, from Shimizu S-Pulse, signed a contract valid until 2030 after successfully undergoing medical tests. The transfer clause was set at approximately 500,000 euros.

Gladbach's expectation is that, as in the case of fellow Japanese Kaishu Sano, the low-cost signing will result in the player's appreciation. Uno is a defensive midfielder who adds a new option to the squad, especially after the departures of Rocco Reitz (RB Leipzig) and Yannik Engelhardt (back after loan at Como 1907).

In addition to Zento Uno, the team had already secured the signing of Enzo Leopold, who arrived free of charge from Hannover 96. Sporting director Rouven Schröder highlighted Uno's qualities: "Zento is a player who thinks defensively, tactically disciplined, strong in duels and with great work capacity. After two seasons in the J-League and his first caps for the Japanese national team, the move to the Bundesliga represents a challenge, but we believe he will succeed overcome it and we are excited to be able to accompany and support it.”

Zento Uno expressed his satisfaction with the transfer: "I always dreamed of playing in the Bundesliga. Borussia is a big club, well known in Japan for its Japanese players. When the opportunity arose, I knew I wanted to play here."
