Salernitana chose to maintain continuity, officially re-electing sporting director Daniele Faggiano and extending his contract for another season. This decision took the majority of fans by surprise, who experienced a season below expectations. It is the first time that President Iervolino has renewed a current contract for a manager.
Some collaborators close to the president expressed doubts, believing that Faggiano's several expulsions revealed a nervousness that the team does not need. Conflicts with journalists and a disagreement with fans after the derby against Benevento increased discontent, leading to speculation about a possible dismissal. The heated argument with coach Raffaele in Cava de Tirreni was one of the high points of the controversy.
What generated astonishment and discomfort among fans was the team's performance last season. Salernitana started the season with big ambitions, backed by a robust budget and significant investment. However, even with this investment, the team was never really in the fight to win the championship, presenting an irregular performance and navigating anonymous areas of the table. The removal from the top positions confirmed the failure of the objectives, leaving fans disappointed.
Faggiano's strategic choices were criticized. His market management was considered flawed at key moments, with expensive acquisitions that failed to live up to expectations, resulting in players who did not integrate well or often sat on the bench, such as Inglese and Capomaggio. Furthermore, the lack of balance in the team was evident throughout the season, raising questions about squad construction.
Faced with these errors, many fans expected a revolution or, at least, a change in technical direction to chart a new course. Thus, Faggiano's renewal represents a risky bet: he must now demonstrate that he has learned from past mistakes, rebuilding a Salernitana capable of making the most of available resources and fighting for the goals that the city deserves. On a reasonable basis, it is clear that a partial revolution will be necessary. The team needs two goalkeepers, at least one quality defender, a right winger, an alternative to Villa on the left, two midfielders, a creative capable of unbalancing and a striker. Two unknowns remain, one of which is whether Lescano will be kept under the supervision of a technical team led by the equally renewed Cosmi. The coach, who has established a good relationship with the fans, must now give the team a style of play and not just transmit determination.
