Picerno, Greco: «We start from our group. The aim is to ensure maintenance as early as possible»

Picerno's general director, Vincenzo Greco, took stock of the present and future of the Luciano club in an interview with TuttoC.com, addressing the team's ambitions, the sporting project and the challenges that await the Rossoblù in the next Serie C championship.

According to Greco, Group C will be even more demanding than in the past: "It will be an even more complicated group. With Bari's relegation and the promotion of clubs with economic capacity from Serie D, a very competitive championship awaits us. We build on the enthusiasm of the last five or six rounds, when the team played pleasant football and obtained important results, such as the victory against Catania."

The board wants to continue the project started in the second half of last season. «We start with the 22-23 players who finished the championship. There are only two or three contractual situations to be defined, but the group is solid and we want to continue with these players, who embraced the Picerno project even in times of greatest difficulty», he explained.

Greco also highlighted that the performance in the second round — 27 points and salvation assured two days in advance — was the result of the work carried out after the revolution that took place in January.

In terms of infrastructure, the manager praised the Curcio Stadium, which next season will also host Sorrento's home games. «In Italy there is a serious problem in sports venues and we need to start there to relaunch football. We received requests from Cosenza and Savoia, but we already had an agreement with Sorrento. For a community of just 5,000 inhabitants, having two professional teams playing in the same stadium is a great opportunity also from an economic point of view», he said.

Looking to the future involves young people and sustainability: «We want to continue living this experience as a fairy tale, but with the awareness that we are consolidated in Serie C. The objective is to return to the left half of the table, value young people and create added value, always respecting our economic parameters».

Finally, the priority does not change: «The first objective will be to achieve maintenance as soon as possible. Only then will we eventually be able to think about even more ambitious goals».
