Liverpool is preparing an attack for Daniel Banjaqui, Benfica's right-back, in an operation led by Michael Edwards. According to information from England, the Reds have already held recent conversations with the player's representatives and see his signing as a possibility on the table this summer.
The Anfield club's priority is to secure a right-back and, at the same time, ensure that the reinforcement can be registered as a locally trained player. Banjaqui fits into this plan, as do other young people recently identified by the structure, such as Giovanni Leoni, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Mor Talla Ndiaye.
Banjaqui, the under-17 World champion, has impressed at Benfica and has already made appearances for the main team, including an assist in his first start. The young man has even been compared to Nuno Mendes (Paris Saint-Germain), and there are those who recognize similar potential. His admiration at Anfield is shared by Pedro Marques, recruited from Benfica and currently working with Edwards, who is seen as a great fan of the full-back.
The move by Banjaqui comes as part of a wider recruitment strategy since Edwards' return to leading FSG's football operations department. Liverpool has expanded its scouting range and invested in emerging talents, reflected in the additions of Armin Pecsi, Ifeanyi Ndukwe and Mor Talla Ndiaye, with the expectation of also making Sidy Barhama Ndiaye official when he turns 18. Colombia's Samuel Martinez is already assured of joining as soon as he comes of age, and there is still growing interest in young Kennet Eichhorn.
In the Banjaqui dossier, the full-back is linked to Benfica until 2031 and has a release clause of 80 million euros. Still, Liverpool's intention is to negotiate a value significantly lower than that stipulated in the contract.
