This Monday, Seville made public an official note in a very critical tone addressed to Sergio Ramos, 40 years old, ending negotiations for the acquisition of the majority of the club's capital by the former Real Madrid captain.
In the statement, signed by the main shareholders — including former president José María Del Nido Benavente and the Alés, Carrión, Guijarro and Castro families —, the club accuses the Spanish international of a “deception prepared for months” and a “manifest lack of respect”, classifying the player's retreat as unacceptable behavior for someone of his public importance.
The owners also maintain that Sergio Ramos' entourage disclosed incorrect information about Sevilha's financial situation, in a “brutal violation” of the confidentiality commitments signed during the due diligence phase.
According to the reconstruction presented by the large shareholders, a preliminary and binding agreement, dated January 26, 2026, provided for the sale of up to 85% of the share capital, for immediate payment. This understanding included the obligation, on the part of the buyers, to inject 80 million euros through a subsequent capital increase — a condition considered non-negotiable by the sellers. The exclusivity period ran until May 31, 2026.
Towards the end of that period, the scenario changed. The three international groups initially presented, including Five Eleven Capital, “disappeared” from the conversations, leaving only the Mexican fund DMI as an effective investor, which only emerged at the penultimate meeting. According to Sevilla, the requests for price discounts and payment deferrals made by Ramos on May 11 aimed to reopen pacts already closed and raised doubts about the safeguarding of the Andalusian club's real estate assets.
On a legal level, Sevilha confirmed that it had sent, on Monday morning, a formal notification to Sergio Ramos and Five Eleven, denouncing non-compliance and requesting immediate payment of the penalty clause, in addition to compensation for willful and fraudulent conduct.
Despite the delicate moment and the self-criticism regarding the sporting and financial crisis of recent seasons, the large shareholders guarantee that the roadmap for financial recovery is maintained, as well as contacts with other investment groups considered solid.
