Arda Güler, one of the players who stood out this season at Real Madrid, shared his experience in an interview with TRT Spor. The Turk played an important role in Xabi Alonso's scheme, which, despite ending earlier than expected, left a significant mark on his career. "The truth is that we had an excellent relationship. I felt like he handed me the keys. It was exactly what I was looking for, really," said Güler.
The player also wished Xabi luck in his new challenge at Chelsea: "I hope everything goes well for him. Of course we continue exchanging messages." Güler recalled a special message he received after the game against Bayern Munich, where he had a remarkable performance despite the defeat: "After the game, he told me that he was very proud of me. I was very happy to see the message. May God make his path easier. I believe he is a great coach."
Another point addressed by the player was the way Xabi worked on tactics. "When he calls you into his office and explains something about tactics, it's hard not to be convinced. He knows your abilities well and what he can bring you. He was a man who, probably, every day when he woke up, thought about how to improve this player and how to communicate with him."
Güler also recalled an anecdote from his first game of the season with the coach: "Before our first game, when I was in the starting team, he told me in the morning: 'I want you to touch the ball more than everyone on your right'. When you hear that, it doesn't take much convincing."
The Turkish player also spoke about his current and former teammates, highlighting the similarity between his vision of the game and that of Luka Modric. Regarding other coaches, Güler mentioned Arbeloa, with whom he has "very good communication", and revealed a quote from Ancelotti: "You will be one of the best midfielders of the future".
