André Silva returned to Porto after nine years, with a clear objective: "Being a fan on the pitch" and contributing to winning new trophies. The 30-year-old Portuguese striker described his return as "a very special day" which came at "the right time" in his career.
"I haven't yet had time to fully assimilate what's happening and create expectations," explained the center forward, reaffirming, however, his desire to do his best to help the team win. "Winning and becoming national champions is an objective and a requirement of this club. Porto is the most important institution in Portugal: this is our path, it is part of our identity."
The former Milan player highlighted that the bond with the club never broke during his years abroad. "I feel like the same fan I always have when it comes to Porto, but today I bring with me a huge amount of baggage, built up through all the challenges I've faced over the years."
When remembering the moment he found out about Porto's interest, André Silva admitted that he was deeply moved. "It was something very special for me. Since leaving Porto, I have always carried this passion with me. I tried to distance myself emotionally to pursue my professional path, but it was impossible. Sooner or later, I had to return. Everything happened at the right time and I am very happy."
The striker revealed that he experienced winning the last championship as a simple fan: "I celebrated like any fan and I was happy for the title and for the fact that the club has returned to the level it deserves."
Regarding the new coach, Francesco Farioli, André Silva said that he only had brief contact with him, which occurred when Porto expressed their interest.
Looking to the future, the Portuguese promises maximum commitment and a spirit of belonging: "I want to be a fan on the pitch. I will give my all to help the team, especially with goals, so that we can win trophies and always remain united."
Among the objectives, there is no doubt: "Winning the championship is a natural request for this club. I want to contribute so that, while I'm here, Porto continues to win titles."
After experiences in the main European championships, André Silva believes that he returns home as a more mature and complete player. "I come back with all the experience accumulated in my career. If everything I've experienced has brought me here, it means that each step had meaning. I'm proud, confident and convinced that I can live up to expectations."
Finally, he left a message for the fans: "I'm back and proud to fight for us, for you and for all those who represent this club. Blue and white are in my heart."
