Viktor Gyökeres is already in charge of the Sweden national team. The 27-year-old forward was allowed to join the training camp later, as he played in the Champions League final on Saturday. At the 2026 World Cup, the Swedes will be opponents of the Netherlands in the group stage.

Gyökeres was present in the Champions League final, which Arsenal lost to Paris Saint-Germain, after penalties. On Tuesday, Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman explained in a press conference that he also allowed Arsenal defender Jurriën Timber to later join Oranje, for fitness management reasons and to digest the lost final. On the Swedish side, coach Graham Potter also gave Gyökeres the opportunity to perform at a later date. On Monday, Arsenal also celebrated the English title with a bus parade in London.

The striker will now work with the Swedish group. Sweden plays its farewell game against Greece this Thursday, at 7pm, and it is not yet certain whether Gyökeres will be part of the squad for that match. The trip to the United States follows: on Monday, June 15, the Scandinavians face Tunisia; five days later, they met forces with the Netherlands, in Houston.
