Over the years, the legend of Luka Vuskovic has grown. His prodigious leap and a physical structure beyond his years, combined with two successful seasons on loan, have only increased expectations around him. Three years after his £12 million signing, many are ready to kneel before Luka and name him the solution to all our defensive problems, without ever having seen him play live. Last night in Dallas, Luka had the opportunity to add to his reputation and prove he's ready, but a bruising loss in the opening game, at the hands of players he will face week after week, didn't go according to plan. Luka's rise to a top topic of conversation is due to a standout season in Germany with Hamburger SV. The Croatian grabbed the opportunity with both hands, finishing the season as the top-scoring defender and being named in the 2025-26 Team of the Season. His success coincided with another disappointing season in N17. While we fought against relegation with central defenders who seemed disinterested in the fight, in Europe Luka dismantled the opposing forwards as if they were made of paper. His strong performances led him to gain notoriety in the media, in the Croatian national team and in the consciousness of all Spurs fans. Suddenly, Luka was seen as an option, no longer as a protégé. What has always made Luka stand out is his build. This is what gives him an advantage in duels and makes him a valuable asset in set pieces, but his size comes at a cost. His lack of recovery speed was evident when Jude Bellingham stepped forward to score England's third goal. His lack of speed, agility and mobility are genuine concerns. Not all defenders need to be as quick as Micky van de Ven, but it is necessary to maximize strengths and hide weaknesses. At the moment, Tottenham are not in a position to offer him the minutes he needs to evolve from a promise into a true top central defender. We hope that, given time to reflect on what happened in Dallas, your team of advisors will make the right decision. Demanding to be a starter at Spurs, when we have already added Marco Senesi and are about to announce Jan Paul van Hecke, is not realistic. Vuskovic remains an exciting prospect, but one who needs game time and strong guidance on and off the training pitch. The most sensible decision for all parties would be a loan move to a Premier League club with a similar style of play. The hard work and focus needed to turn the legend into reality begins now.
